CMU welcomes its new students with the “First Lesson on Health,”
launching ten major initiatives to promote students' physical and mental health,
laying a solid foundation for youth and building strength for growth.

Event Highlights
On September 29, Capital Medical University held a launch ceremony for its Student Physical and Mental Health Initiative and the "First Lesson on Health for New Students," offering all first-year students a distinctive orientation experience. At the event, the university unveiled ten major initiatives to promote students’ physical and mental well-being, with the aim of building a comprehensive health education system that integrates medical and educational resources and promotes the coordinated development of moral, intellectual, physical, aesthetic, and labor education.

Gao Jun, Second-Level Inspector of the Department of Physical Health and Arts Education of the Ministry of Education; Zhou Lin, Member of the Education Working Committee of the Beijing Municipal Party Committee and Deputy Director of the Beijing Municipal Education Commission; Wang Dapin, Secretary of the University Party Commitee; Zhang Lixin, Deputy Secretary of the University Party Commitee; Wu Bing, Standing Member of the University Party Committee and Vice President; and Xu Liang, Standing Member of the University Party Committee and Vice President, attended the event. The first batch of physical and mental health education mentors, media representatives, and more than 2,000 teachers and students participated together.

"Drumming for Youth"
The event opened with “Drumming for Youth,” a Chinese drum performance featuring 100 students. Dressed in red capes, the medical students—representing different majors and year groups—beat their drums in unison, sounding a rallying call for action on health. The rising and falling drumbeats echoed the rhythm of life's heartbeat and breathing, fully demonstrating the rigorous teamwork and spirited youth of CMU students.

Wang Dapin Delivers a Speech
In his remarks, Wang Dapin urged students to take primary responsibility for their own health and encouraged faculty members to guide them toward healthy development. He stated that the university would rely on platforms such as the Healthy China Research Center and affiliated hospitals to unite the combined efforts of families, schools, society, and medical institutions, creating a replicable and promotable "CMU Solution" for health education.

Zhang Lixin Chairs the Ceremony
The ceremony unveiled ten initiatives to promote students’ physical and mental well-being: strengthening foundations through Party building; fostering growth through medical-educational collaboration; promoting fitness through the integration of medicine and sports; enriching campus life through the integration of medicine and the arts; encouraging practical engagement through the integration of medicine and labor education; strengthening psychological support; cultivating healthy behaviors; enhancing the faculty workforce; empowering health initiatives through smart technologies; and fostering a shared health culture. Together, these initiatives are designed to support health education throughout students’ development and across the entire talent-development process.

Zhou Lin Delivers Remarks
Zhou Lin expressed the hope that the university would upgrade its educational philosophy from a "healthy school" to "school health," expand its educational path from a focus on single psychological health to the integration of five educations, and elevate its service capacity from serving the university itself to serving the entire city, providing greater support for the physical and mental health of primary, secondary, and university students across Beijing.

Gao Jun Delivers Remarks
Gao Jun noted that the country places great importance on students’ physical and mental health. The Ministry of Education, he said, is advancing the development of healthy schools and promoting the integration of the five areas of education. He encouraged CMU to build on its strengths in medicine, continue exploring medical-educational collaboration and integrated education, and develop more practical outcomes that can be shared and applied more widely.

Student Representatives Give Thematic Sharing
Student representatives presented a thematic sharing titled "Youth Toward Health, Growing Together on the Medical Path," issuing the initiative to "integrate health into daily life and let youth burn hot with medicine," interpreting the meaning of health from the perspective of peers and calling on students to implement health management in every small detail of daily life.

Launch Ceremony
In an atmosphere charged with enthusiasm, university leaders and faculty and student representatives took the stage to launch the Capital Medical University Student Physical and Mental Health Initiative together.

A Thousand People Practice the Original Fitness Exercise "The Rhythm of Life" Together
"Health action starts now!" After the launch ceremony, more than a thousand medical students practiced the university's original fitness exercise "The Rhythm of Life" together. This fitness exercise was independently created by university teachers and students, based on the foundations of sports medicine and integrating traditional Chinese medicine health preservation, physical-aesthetic-labor education, and psychological adjustment concepts from multiple disciplines. It is divided into three sets of movements—"Relax Shoulders and Brighten the Face, Straighten the Spine and Loosen the Hips, Revitalize Body and Mind"—which are independent yet progressive. Suitable for both group performance and divided use during class breaks and clinical work intervals, it truly allows practice at any time and use in any place, adapting to multiple scenarios such as campuses, teaching, and hospitals, possessing both medical professionalism and popular practicality.
Upholding the "Health First" concept, the university will also use this fitness exercise as a starting point to guide medical students to establish health awareness from the first lesson upon entering the campus, getting teachers and students moving, making the campus lively, and strengthening physical fitness!

Students Perform the Original Theme Song "Setting Sail on the Medical Path"
After the fitness exercise performance concluded, 27 students from the main campus, the Chinese Institutes for Medical Research, Beijing, and various clinical medical schools took the stage to perform the original theme song "Setting Sail on the Medical Path." The lyrics etched youthful moments of campus morning reading, lab breakthroughs, athletic exertion, and clinical dedication, expressing through song CMU youth's ideals in safeguarding life.
Beyond the main stage, the "My Health, My Decision" Healthy Youth Market bustled with activity, with experience sections such as sports fitness, cultural and artistic experiences, psychological support, traditional Chinese medicine wellness, and health screenings attracting students to stop, check in, and immerse themselves in the experience.
As night fell, the "Youth Open Mic" artistic performance and the "Healthy Youth, Illuminating Hearts" lawn movie were staged in succession. Teachers and students gathered on the sports ground to watch the film together, perceiving the spiritual power of perseverance and struggle in the story of light and shadow, and relieving physical and mental stress in a relaxed atmosphere.
From the hundred drums opening, mentor guidance, and peer sharing, to a thousand people practicing the original fitness exercise together and the original song being sung, and then to the interactive market and lawn movie viewing, the "Health First" concept is being transformed into immersive, participatory, and actionable vivid educational practice, nourishing the CMU campus like spring rain and sowing the seeds of healthy growth in the hearts of youth.
